Amazon recently surprised everyone by announcing it would launch Amazon WorkMail, a secure, managed business email and calendaring solution, poised to compete with Microsoft Exchange and Gmail.
My first thought: A little late to the game, eh?
Secure, reliable email delivered through the cloud is not a new concept. In fact, the market is already maturing and entering the extreme price competition phase.
The biggest player in the business world, of course, is Microsoft, which has built on its history of providing Exchange servers for networks to offer hosted Exchange in the cloud with its Office 365 offering. Quite a bit behind Microsoft, Google has been offering email to businesses for a few years. Both of them are driving costs down to really low levels.
